Vickisa Unfolds.
V Accordion books, music festivals, painted bread—Vickisa’s world is anything but flat. Her handmade, fold-out art books burst with painted drawings, collage and visual storytelling drawn from decades of artistic devotion. From the French Quarter to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, her subjects dance across accordion pages that stretch up to seven feet wide. Her latest book, New Orleans is Hot, sizzles with scenes of Mardi Gras Indians, musicians and street life—all captured while her pencil literally melted in the heat. ‘Vickisa Unfolds Her Universe’ is on view for the month of July at the Stinson Beach Library, 3521 Shoreline Hwy. I’m so happy that I got this show up in the library because all of my 14 books are open and amongst their book friends. This is a very different show for me… with 14 books. It wasn’t easy but it’s great to see for me. I found some gold in books that were really from a way back ago.
I also changed the name of the book I just finished to Family Counts In New Orleans with a photo I took of Big Chief Monk Boudreaux and family. So many musicians are included in families where they have children playing with them really big time musicians but they really care to bring it up and a lot of families are famous for their last name and they’re great music I love it.
The Members show at Gallery Route One opened with a large collection of versatile artists and will be on till August 2. I will be there July 13 and 27th 11 to 5 so slide by and say hi.
Now I am going to put my friends up on the list of things to do, and not do art shows for little while..I really expect to be out and about and seeing and visiting and let’s go.
