    August 8, 2026

    From Vickisa:

My guest on Coastal Airwaves 4:00 pm on Thursday, August 20th is Evan Kahn he wrote“ I was born in Bolinas in 1981 to my amazing parents Lloyd Kahn and Lesley Creed. I attended Bolinas school and I graduated San Andreas HS in 1999. I went to Santa Barbara City College for 4 years Studying Computer science, Astronomy as well as computer animation. In 2003 I moved back to Marin county where I met my lovely wife Chelsea and in 2008 we moved back to bolinas where I worked  for my fathers publishing company Shelter Publications , I also painted houses locally for Jim Vest for 12 years until I got a chance to apply for the BCPUD in 2021, I have been working as a shift operator until this year I got a chance to become the Chief Plant Operator (interim) working for the BCPUD is one of the most fulfilling job I’ve ever had. Every day I get home from work I know that I have helped the town of Bolinas making drinking water and running the wastewater system.” Gault is about people that love what they do and that’s how Evan fits in so well and I’ve known him since he was a kid and I love seeing all of these kids grow up and get into very great work and play and sometimes even in relationships.Tune in 89.9 ,90.5, 23.3 FM and streaming on KWMR.org

Beyond and Within, An exhibition of paintings by Jeremy Morgan, at CONTINUUM Fine Art till September 27,Artists Talk: Saturday, August 15th “My work has been a form of visual research, manifesting through collage and paintings at various scales. The focus of the work has been the fusion of various trajectories: the direct experience of the phenomena of the natural world, but one that resists the notion of mimesis.”   Jeremy quote. Jeremy uses exquisite language really about what he sees and how he sees and he was kind enough to come to GRO Route One and he agreed to give every artist member showing a talk and I tell you eight minutes of hearing about your work and what he thinks and it was just remarkable He just kept going on and going on a minute break to think he had it all and it just flowed. I just find him so amazing and it was very happy to hear what he had to say. It was just lovely and helpful and unique.

Join Slide Ranch on August 27 for Full Moon Evenings, an interwoven celebration of the moon and the night sky alongside the earth and all that grows from the soil. Begin with food and drink before diving into an evening of expert-led astronomy or astrology — your choice. It was the 60s and Susie remembered a lot and Myla is a fine writer and pulled it together and I was there and we did it so if you are interested check it out. I learned stuff, for example when Susie, Eddy Washington (her then Husband),Doug, and Huey Johnson, Director of The Nature Conservancy went there for first time they were met by drug dealers with guns. Lots more to see. I enjoyed the revisit. You can to https://www.slideranch.org/ranchthymes/2026/5/14/remembering-earlier-days

My hand specialist who I just like so much told me that my hand is gonna totally improve but it takes way more l time that I’m giving it but she says I’m doing great which really is amazing. I actually was drawing for three hours at a time which is surprising so it’s quite a leap. Lost a lot of time so I’m having to really get going for the Bart show which is tiny little things I’m making with my poor hands but they’re out of the cast and much better than could be.

Rosanne Lavoy just told me that First Valley Bistro will be at the Inverness Fair on Saturday the 8th. just hope that this gets to you. Many people have been telling me about the Inverness Fair that’s gonna be really great for a lot of people it’s always fun and full.Rosanne is the owner of the Coast Cafe in Bolinas. She is also a sommelier,Senior Program Operations Manager at Intel Corporation, The Reasturant surprises coming watch towards the soft opening at the end of August. I so wanna be there.

I miss Steven “When Colbert, 62, left CBS , so too did all of his viewers. The first episode of Byron Allen’s Comics Unleashed to premiere at Colbert’s previous 11:35 pm time slot drew just 995,000 viewers, by LateNighter. By comparison, Colbert’s series finale attracted more than 6.7 million viewers via the same metric, meaning CBS saw an 85 percent downturn in viewership just one day after Colbert’s show went dark for good.85 percent stopped watching CBS after “ including me.

I miss friends too so SAY HEY IF YOU HAVE SOMETHING TO SAY. Or you might want me to stop sending these monthly, private list blurts to you just tell me and I will do my best.

    Thanks for opening  Vickisa

My guest on Coastal Airwaves Thursday JULY 16TH, 4 pm is Erma Murphy. She started out in the music arts scene in 2000 in Mill Valley hosting First Friday jams at her home. She and her partner Daniel Patrick operated Murphy Productions and Publicity from 2004 to 2014 booking the listing room at the Old Larkspur Café theatre and dance shows around the bay area.  publicizing cool arts organizations such as the Mill Valley Fall Arts festival and Marin Open studios.  Her experience in publicity and booking helps in her current position as Now as Executive Director of O’Hanlon Center for the Arts in Mill Valley she happily serves the artist members and patrons brilliantly at this almost 60-year old nonprofit in Cascade Canyon. She is also a great dancer and music lover and friend. KWMR 90.5, 89.9, and 72.3 Streaming on KWMR.org Always on the third Thursday at 4 o’clock. I will be conversing with people that love what they do and that interest me.

My son just bought a house in Venice Beach in a really good area a block away from Abbot Kenny Street. He surfs every day almost at 5 o’clock in the morning anyway it’s quite a scene and he become quite the party person and he made a party for my being there and it was really a lovely event I had a great trip it was full of crazy fun and just family and my stepson showed up too so it was really fun. At Jimmys Restaurant Big Sur Grill wood fired Grill in Santa Monice. oh fun and great and it was wonderful food and just a great group of people to have dinner with. All Merlins friends were huggy huggy me cause I made him.

Vickisa and Merlin with friends in a restaurant

Merlin drove up here to get this piece of wood across the front of his entryway from the Bolinas water that he loved to surf so much

Small World OK why do I have a cast for my little finger and my ring finger you ask or you don’t know. I went to get coffee at Tobys before I did the first workshop for West Marin Senior Services. I took the paper coffee cup started walking towards the chair and realized that the paper on the cup was like card stock paper with nothing to hold it together and it was squeezing up and I was afraid it was gonna get on me or people that were around me so I went towards an open place, leaned down so it wouldn’t go up on me and I leaned over and fell on my pinky & ring finger. Angel man named Michael grab me around my waist and prevented me from the face plant. I went and did the class standing up to ours and drawing examples then I spent a bunch of time trying to get appointments at Kaiser which was under staffed etc.anyway days later I finally just went to the ER and amazing who is there but Dr. Toby Saltz he set up Vickisa I thought it was you and he tell me all about his family etc. it turns out he grew up in Bolinas and I knew him. he was so great sent me to the cast person who said I think I know you, I was in the western weekend parade with the dancing group I said I was with KWMR I had the big Radio and I have a Lotta pictures of your group because we finished before you and she ended up taking all the pictures off my phone and it was just amazing What are the chances of that. Well kind people it lifted me up (considering.) Quite a story

I saw on TV how Artist of all kinds outlive other people. How about that?

Wavy just turned 90 with lots of celebration. Bully went and got at the kind of food that I like dim sum and stuff and brought it in he enjoyed it too.

I attended the Western weekend parade in Point Reyes Station I loved it so much. Horses, riders, dancers, musicians, all ages, all representing including KWMR where I was marching with the giant radio that Zim Caroselli and I made years ago. I was carrying its glittered up.

Tickets are on sale now for two nights of Dark Star Orchestra at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, July 31 and August 1, a Rex Foundation benefit and tribute to Bob Weir

On Friday, July 31, Dark Star Orchestra invites Melvin Seals & JGB to open the show as special guests. Melvin Seals performed alongside Garcia for more than 15 years, helping define the soulful, gospel-infused sound that became a hallmark of JGB. The band will also be joined by the highly acclaimed Jazz Mafia Horn Section, featuring Mike Olmos on trumpet, Tommy Occhiuto on saxophone, and Adam Theis on trombone. Having played with many Grateful Dead-adjacent musicians, the Jazz Mafia is a great addition to pump up the funk that Jerry loved.

On Saturday, August 1, Dark Star Orchestra, well known for their show recreations, will perform a show from Roosevelt Stadium in Jersey City, New Jersey, on August 1, 1973 (the first of three times the Grateful Dead performed on Jerry’s birthday). Peter Rowan with the Sam Grisman Project will open the show. Peter was a founding member of the seminal bluegrass collective “Old and In the Way,” alongside Jerry Garcia. The Sam Grisman Project, led by the son of legendary mandolinist David Grisman, continues their tradition by celebrating the timeless sound. We look forward to an incredible weekend at the Greek in appreciation of Bob and all he shared with us, celebrating our community, the music that brings us together, and the spirit of generosity that shows up whenever we gather!

DoctorToby Saltz who treated my finger

Well before teaching my class Self reflective portrait in Frida Kahlo style on June 1. I wanted to get a cup of coffee and went to Tobys and got the cup of coffee and the cup was just paper and nothing holding it together so it started squishing up in my hand I went to get rid of it but they were people around me so I walked forward bent down and tried to throw it out because it would’ve been hot water all over my white blouse and me anyway I slipped and fell on my pinky and my ring finger but not on the rest of me because there was this lovely guy name Michael who grabbed me by my waist and stop me from a face plant. lucky they say.It was really difficult to get a Kaiser appointment with the doctor just to Get to a specialist but I got one on the phone never with a DR after I told him I saw all these medical people that I know he get me some x-rays.

Then I got the information that wasn’t real helpful it was either arthritis or an injury as one of my students was a retired hand specialist amazing. After this and trying and trying I finally ended up at the emergency room.

So I go to the ER to get it to happen without driving into San Francisco which is the only appointment I could get from Kaiser but I knew if I had to drive back and had a cast which I suspected I would have it would be really murder anyway I go to the ER and the doctor there is a kid I knew in Bolinas growing up and he said Vickisa I thought it was you. well what a helpful person it was great to see Dr.Toby Saltz and how he developed and looks so fine.Moments of Happiness.

On to the Doctor Who immediately sent me to the cast maker and she happened to have been in the Western weekend parade which I also was in for KWMR. What are the chances of that? it lifted me up (considering.)

    Sea Otter near my house

    WILD STUFF

A sea otter actually walked across the street in front of my house from I guess the Bolinas Lagoon it was amazing. I was yelling at it and it was running past me and ran to my door and under a little table that was outside. I mean it was like 3 feet away from me. I didn’t eat my fish  or mess with the cat I think it was scared when I got home from where I had to leave too it was gone. Rid of him. Recently there were three young skunk that showed up a couple of days but I yelled so hard and chased them

JULY 4th Bolinas Parade I got a giant one from the Coast café hanging at the ice cream spot. HAHA.  There was some great food out there too.

Giving up and getting out of March was tough, a lot of difficult things happened. The hardest part was when I whined at people they often had an even way worse experience than I was talking about.

PANCAKE BREAKFAST AT BOLINAS FIRE DEPARTMENT  Mothers day, May 10th 8-11AM

It’s a really nice community, family, friends, experience, lots of meet ups. Always fun. I crack hundreds of eggs and always have a good time there. It’s so nice to eat and see everybody there.

I am back from New Orleans French Quarter Festival, and it was really uplifting. There was so much great music, people of all kinds and all were kind and Happy. the only thing that was a drag is that it’s hard to pick what to go to as it was sooo full. I was so happy and everybody I saw was happy and nice and it was huge and so well presented I couldn’t believe it. I am making a book about it. The only problem was there was so much happening it was hard to decide who to go see and hear. I walked 6 to 7 miles a day just going from stages to stages and it was amazing. I had to see John Boutte he’s so talented and nice and he was being replayed on the radio on my show while I was seeing him in person.

Here I am with the Grand Marshall and the painted drawing of him from my last years book. I also go to Jamnola Museum and this time I got boiled in the crawdad boil.

I am happy with the way that they do their summer camp. I can see that if I had a grand child, which I don’t (in case somebody has an extra) kidding, anyway I would love to reccomand that camp. It is the kind of camp I had when I worked being a camp director for many years.

so much fun I had great kids come in and do their drawing of the house that they want to have and how they are going to get electricity and how they’re going to keep it from burning up because I have to put the trees and plants a certain amount away etc. etc. I have to tell you even the young ones did great. But I’ll tell you who was really great is Fabrice Florin who is the leader of Green Change, Earth Day Marin (for his last time)a great friend, and more. He did a remarkable job with all the people that he got to volunteer there and work there little hearts out. It was amazing as it is here I was so impressed and honored to get to do my art project there I loved it and him. And IT WAS GREAT FUN !

I will be in New Orleans at the French Quarter Festival when my show Coastal Airwaves airs April 16 at 4 PM on KWMR. I will be back on the 22nd. But, you can listen to a previous show with my guest John Boutte. He is a great singer/songwriter, a kind, loving, real person, and art appreciator. He is the Voice of the French Quarter Festival in the air and more. An award winner and beloved by all that know him and his music like Treme and many other hits. I’ve drawn him more than anybody at the French Quarter -fest. I’ve made several books there and hope to make another one  this year.

The French Quarter Festival is at the top of my list of not to be missed music events. There is music that you won’t see and hear here. There’s so many stages and food, drinks and fun, nice, all kinds of people. It goes throughout New Orleans.

I was told to tell everyone to go to my website, vickisa.com– then look at the Menu for COASTAL AIRWAYS then click it.  It will tell you how to listen to the upcoming show. And info.

Lots going on locally I will miss much but…

Photos of KWMR Volunteer Program Party

KWMR As usual I tortured myself to get this picture from KWMR. Email sent to everyone on my lurch but I really wanted you to see how happy I am there and everybody else it was great. KWMR, this is our first drive since Congress cut public media funding by defunding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) in July of 2025. This was a big blow to KWMR, eliminating 26% of our budgeted funding in the blink of an eye.

Photo of the KWMR Volunteer Party

Save the Date! KWMR Day is on May 2nd every
year and this year it falls on a Saturday.  KWMR has reserved the Dance Palace’s beautiful outdoor area and will be hosting a family friendly event in the afternoon that will include food, fun, and a “No Talent Show” on the fancy new stage. We are still working out the details, but suffice it to say it will be fun, so pencil us in!  I hope to be there KWMR has been a real blessing for me I was actually having a really bad March and this party help me a lot rise above it specially when other hosts of shows told me they listen to mine and liked it you know I’m a Leo and we need that we want it.From Amanda our fearless leader- hope that you are feeling the great vibes and enthusiasm from KWMR as much as I am. After spending six months mourning the loss of public media’s federal support – losing the money is just as heartbreaking as the lack of respect for what all these media outlets provide, I am encouraged by our volunteers and the amazing staff at KWMR. I really hate AT&T TREATMENT to end with this but it has been a very retroactive time for me and others reverting to an earlier and inferior condition: to go back on the progress that has been made would be ( a retrograde step.) I can only say that AT&T has really contributed to my misery. I am retrograded. I have been a customer for over 30 years.and keep my land line but… Their phones dropped so much that I finally had to drop it and get Verizon which has been really good for me and they’re very good for first responders giving a discount which is really nice. AT&T modem was always a little weak but I stuck till Feb. when it just stopped and I couldn’t figure it out I finally caught one of the guys that works on the crew fix stuff and he said that something was blocking the same thing and they couldn’t fix it so I was out for several weeks in February and then I finally went and got a new Internet, Muir Beach Land. The 2 guys that installed were great and musicians YAY. IT WORKS. I got a bill saying that I owed more money when I didn’t have the Internet. Called three days and had an hour to wait each day it isa phone CO!  talk then it closed, my battery gave out .Horrible AI  talking about what I should buy over and over. to Billing and it never happened once they finally I guess the offered me $16 for pain and suffering but charged me $5 to talk to Billing  nadwhen I was paying a lot more for their Internet

Her book, Nature, Culture, and the Sacred: A Woman Listens for Leadership, won a gold Nautilus Award in the categories of Women in the 21st Century and Racial Justice. January was exhausting It is hard to be a Person now. I am trying to slow down but lots going on. Work & Play on art, and yard and house clean up. Mowing weeding constant, grass is high again, 2 exhibitions, and  my ATT internet failed for a lot of Jan. Muir Beach Land dug in literally after I could not finish the long trench. It is working good and the guys were sooooo nice and knowledgeable. As January started I went out once to see Monroe Grisman and Petty Theft in Rancho Nicasio. Music was great to Dance to and I got surprised and excited when several of the younger women I was dancing with told me how good I was dancing that was very sweet. I didn’t like when I arrived and they had put on eight dollars more on the ticket that was advertised as $32. I’m not used to that. I got over it with the dance.

FEB 1 I went to Evie Ladens program MoToR/dance, PEOPLE ARE YOU READY in the Bolinas Community Center. I think a lot of people really weren’t ready and just came and found a sold out whole room just buzzing and being communal and we all joined in with some singing and body language with the group of women performing. In Bolinas style people just came and bought their tickets so we didn’t know it was going to be sold out and it was so nice it made me happy since Evie was my guest on my radio show in January. I really enjoyed it and her.

It was on the day of Chris Kelley’s memorial. It was so deep and beautiful in every way and everybody was deeply in it. People talked about him for so long unlike me I was short and sweet (Surprize.) He was so loved. I have a special soft spot for him. There were at least 400 friends but it looked like 1000. My son Merlin came from Venice Beach for 2 days, all friends of Chris and Merlin’s were there and all grown up. They knew who I was but ….

The Bolinas Drawing Group show is at Toby’s Gallery in Point Reyes Station We are having a Reception January 11th, 2 to 4PM  it is on till February 1st

Dieter Tremp quoted and wrote: “Drawing is the Root of Everything”

In this statement Vincent van Gogh expressed the commonly held concept of the centrality of the diligent practice of drawing for almost all of visual art. His friend Paul Gauguin added poetically, “Draw out of nature by dreaming in her presence.” Best described as an eclectic art foundry, the Bolinas Drawing Group has existed for well over thirty years. At present, its veteran member is Vickisa, and the newest addition has been Ann Vuille. The group’s size is largely determined by the studio space available. For a few years now, the group has met twice a month at the Bolinas studio of Harriet Heyman. While all artist members practice drawing together from live models as their muses, it is the only truly common denominator for their art. Highly diverse in style, materials, media, and size, the work produced by each artist in their own studio varies greatly, while still containing somewhere the commonality of drawing together.

    December 21, 2025

Thursday December 18th, 4pm My guest on Coastal Airwaves is Sharron Drake.

    Artwork by Sharron

She is a musician. actor, singer and now impresario that aims to put the arts front and center in people’s lives. Born to a musical family – from her dad playing and putting together an electric organ from a kit that has sat in her parents’ living room all her life, to her mother playing the double bass, she grew up with classical music all around her.  She took up the violin as a child and despite all of the squeaks she managed to stick with it. After realizing that the requirements for a career in the professional classical music world involve at least six hours a day of practice, she conveniently caught the acting bug in high school to switch over and try for an even more daunting vocation! Upon producing a number of local plays in West Marin, she became inspired and realized that people need more opportunities for creativity and artistic expression in their lives.  In fact, she firmly believes that a robust art environment can solve all of society’s ills.

With any luck I am so looking forward to seeing my son Merlin, November 14th quick visit. No Thanksgiving plans but I have lots of Art to work & play on and desperately CLEAN & CLEAN sort etc.

This just in DONNA SEAGER NEW DREAM CAME THRU…

SHE WROTE – When we closed our large-scale gallery in Mill Valley, my dream was to continue in the arts, presenting works to our extensive client list and maintaining valued relationships with artists and the art-loving community. I also wanted to pursue curation as the creative outlet that it is by putting together works that speak to each other in all kinds of interesting and informative ways. The small gallery space in front of Art Brokers at 425 Irwin Street, San Rafael was the perfect solution.

I just have to say that I had the best time and just went there after a miserable time at Kaiser just getting the wrong place the from them and racing around from for my appointment which turned out to be pleasant because I like my physical therapist but… Anyway I just by chance called up Helen and she said hey come to the new Gallery that Donna Seager put up and I did and honestly it was lovely the people I met and saw were great at a lot of friends even people I had business to do with her there and it was just it was delightful and the wine was good and the company was good and I got to meet just by chance someone that I had been communicating with over promo stuff for years and it was so fun honestly I just ended my night with that and then a little stop over at MJ Sushi almost on the way home GOOD reasonable, and to go or stay good anyway and reasonable for Sushi.
