My guest on Coastal airwaves will be Albert Straus October 16th at 4 pm. KWMR.org streaming, 89.9 ,90.5, 23.3 FM
Founder & Executive Chair of the Straus Family Creamery: Albert Straus is a pioneering force in sustainable organic dairy farming. He is a second-generation farmer and was recently honored with the Organic Trade Association’s Organic Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1994, Albert transitioned his family’s Straus Dairy Farm to become the first certified organic dairy west of the Mississippi and founded Straus Family Creamery, the nation’s first 100% certified organic creamery. Albert played a key role in shaping the foundation of the organic movement. He helped draft California’s first organic dairy standards and later worked with the Organic Foods Association of North America. Environmentalism runs in Albert’s family. His mother, Ellen Straus, cofounded the nation’s first agricultural land trust, Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT), which preserved over half the farmland in Marin County for agriculture in perpetuity. Albert wrote, “Most of the dairy farms and cattle ranches at Point Reyes National Seashore will soon disappear, though the ranchers have been leasing the land from the National Park Service for decades. These ranches represent a loss of 20% of the agricultural land in Marin County and a third of West Marin’s dairy farms.”
Hardly Strictly Bluegrass was amazing.

All 3 days felt so good all over. When I parked I looked across the street and saw the place that volunteer horse rider that ride around for security well had their horses there. I said to them you know I drew your horses in a book of mine and I pulled out the book from last year and there it was and they just went nuts took photos of the page and loved it, loved me took me by Ate to the music. They were so great and I love their horses so much.Anyway it was great until I discovered that I was missing my pouch with licence, $ and wristband pass. I went on to have a great experience anyway.
My favorite time was the end up for me Sunday with Peter Rowan, Old and In the Way, and Sam Grisman project (a favorite of mine) together. it was like being back in the 60s when things were pleasant and we thought we could make a difference. I ran into a lot of people that recognized me from that time but many had gray or white hair and I wasn’t sure who they were but it was really lovely everybody was dancing looking great and having a wonderful time and people were so nice. The many fancy men in colorful clothes there thrill me.
